Keep the catalog, equipment, records and people in view before choosing a changeover date.
Inventory what you depend on
Start with the records and routines your store uses today: product identities, barcodes, units, stock, customer records, gift cards and reporting. Add the devices and connected services that make those routines possible. Decide which items must move, which must remain accessible in the previous system and which need a separate process.
Keep a copy of the source records and check that you are allowed to export and use them. Do not send a full customer or financial export through a general inquiry form. Agree an appropriate transfer method with the people handling the migration.
Review a small sample first
Use a representative set of products before attempting the whole catalog. Include an ordinary item, a variant, a multipack and a product with more than one barcode. Check identity, units, tax configuration and pricing against the source.
Historical sales, stored balances and customer records may need different treatment from an active product catalog. Confirm each category explicitly. A product import should not be treated as proof that every business record has moved.
Rehearse the working day
Ask the team to rehearse opening, checkout, receiving, a stock check and closeout using clearly marked demonstration records. Confirm hardware and the people responsible for exceptions. A successful import is only one part of a successful changeover.
Plan the final count or reconciliation point, the responsible reviewers and a way to pause the cutover if a required check fails. Retain access to the previous records for the period your business requires.
- Name the changeover owner and reviewers.
- Check a representative sample before the full transfer.
- Rehearse devices and everyday workflows.
- Document open issues and the decision to proceed or postpone.
Confirm the transfer scope with Taply
Automatic imports from another retail POS are not confirmed. Bring the current system name and a description of available exports so Taply can review the supported method and scope. This guide does not claim a certified migration from NetSuite, Lightspeed or another provider.
